Catching up on blogging... PDF Print E-mail

Wow, I haven’t blogged in so long! It’s not that there hasn’t been anything to write about. I’ve just been busy and let the time get away from me. I’m sure you know how that goes.

First I want to give a brief update with regard to my last blog. I’ve lost 50 lbs! I’m only 4 lbs from my goal weight. I’m exercising almost every day and am healthier than I have been in years.

The Internet tools I’ve been using to help monitor my dietary intake and exercise have been very helpful. So I decided to share these tools with my clients. Most of my clients have found them very helpful, too. I will post some links to these tools in the near future, but I want to write up some guidelines on how to use them first because the sites are not specifically geared towards pregnancy. So there are a few things I need to explain before recommending them for use during pregnancy.

I don’t want to become a weight or scale “Nazi” with my clients, but I do believe the scale can be another valuable tool when it is used properly. So I have developed some charts to monitor weight gain during pregnancy to go along with the tools for monitoring nutrition. So far the feedback I have received from my clients who are using the new tools has been very positive.

I’ve also been really busy with births this year. Our last baby was a big 10 lb 7 oz boy. It was a really nice birth. The mom only had about 30 minutes of really intense labor. Most of her labor prior to the intense part she was walking around and even laughing in between her contractions. It always amazes me how beautiful labor can be. Sometimes it is harder than other times. Of course, we all hope for the easier labors. But for me, getting to watch a woman laboring as she wants is always rewarding.

I have a new apprentice who has been working with me for about six months now. Her name is Liz Derry. I will provide some more information and pictures of Liz on my website soon. I really like her. She is also a nurse which is a nice benefit to our practice. My clients all seem to like Liz a lot, too.

Well, hopefully it won’t be as long before I post my next blog. We have lots of babies due, so there should be some interesting things to write about. And I’ve also been asking my clients to write some birth stories. Hopefully I will also be posting new birth stories soon. Please check back for updates.
