Beth Introduces Herself

First let me begin by telling you that I am a wife, mother and grandmother. I have been happily married for 30+ years and have That's me holding Corbin, one of my grandchildren.three lovely grown children and eleven grandchildren, six of whom I have delivered.

Kassy is my oldest daughter and she is married to Royce.  I assisted with the birth of her first son, my first grandson, Zachary, and also delivered Kassy's second child, Elizebeth and her youngest daughter Wendy.

My son Larry and his wife Hannah have five children and are currently expecting their sixth. The children's names are Isaac, Isabel, Alisia, Andrew and Sebastian. Yes, they have a big family! They love children and they are really good parents, too. We are very proud of them .They always wanted a big family and decided early on that they would not only have lots of babies but also would consider adoption, which they have done. Andrew was added to their family recently at the age of four. He is a delightful child and we are so pleased that Larry and Hannah decided to make him their son and our grandson.

Our youngest daughter Jessica and her husband Chris gave birth at home to their first son, Corbin on October 14, 2001. Be sure to see the pictures of Jessica's labor and Corbin's birth day. I also delivered Jessica and Chris' second son, Jordan in May of 2003 and their daughter, Ava in July of 2004 and their most recent son was born at home March 6, 2006. I invite you to look at the pictures and videos of Ethan here. Note: There is link to a video of Ethan's actual birth on this page. The video has been edited for "G" audiences. All of Jessica's other children were present at the birth. If you would like the user name and password to access this file, please write me. The reason for the password protection is to keep search engines from picking it up.

Jessica is also a Certified Professional Midwife who works with me at Gentle Beginnings. "What a blessing!" (To read more about Jessica, click here.)

This picture was taken when there were 10 grandchildren! From left to right: Ava (4 wk's), Sebastian (2 mos), Jordan (15 mos), Alisia (2 yrs), Wendy (2 yrs/9mos), Corbin (2 yrs/10 mos), Isabel (3 yrs), Isaac (5 yrs), Elizebeth (6 yrs), Zachary (8 yrs). This picture was taken in August 2004.

Now there are 12! The first picture was so cute, we decided to do another one like it. This time we got them to sit in order from oldest to youngest. Well actually, I think Andrew and Alisia should have swapped spots. Alisia is about a month older than Andrew. My husband likes to refer to the 12 grandkids as the "Dirty Dozen." This picture was taken in May, 2006.

From left to right: Zachary (10 yrs), Elizebeth (8 yrs), Isaac (7 yrs), Isabel (5 yrs), Corbin (4 1/2 yrs), Wendy (4 1/2 yrs), Andrew (almost 4 yrs), Alisia (4 yrs), Jordan (almost 3 yrs), Sebastian (almost 2 yrs), Ava (almost 2 yrs) and Ethan (2 months).

This is our whole family (before Ethan and Andrew arrived)!
This picture was taken in March of 2005 at a birthday celebration.

Jessica Gregory, LM, CPM - Staff Midwife

Jessica Gregory is a Licensed Midwife and Certified Professional Midwife on staff at Gentle Beginnings. And as many of you already know, she is also my daughter, so naturally I am very proud of her, both as her former preceptor and as her "Mom."

Being a staff midwife means that Jessica is on call for all births and covers for me as primary midwife in the event that I cannot be available as primary midwife. Because we want our clients to know and be comfortable with both of us, Jessica also oversees a portion of the office visits for clients during the course of their care. She also attends all births as my primary assistant when ever possible.

Jessica began her training in 1998. She took a short break to become a paramedic. She took basic emergency medical and paramedic training, certified as an EMT and drove an ambulance for a while. However, even during this time, she continued to come to births with me. She then officially resumed her midwifery training in the year 2000.

Jessica also spent a year in Waco while her husband was going to school at Baylor. During that time, she trained with Pie Kirby, LM. Then Jessica and Chris moved back to Corpus Christi, where she continued her apprenticeship with me. She and Chris plan to remain in Corpus and raise their family here.

Jessica and I have always worked together at Gentle Beginnings. She was first my apprentice. We have always attended births together whenever possible, and will continue to do so, unless, of course, we are needed in two different places at the same time. And that is one of the nice things about midwives working together; we can take care of two women in labor at the same time, if it becomes necessary.

Jessica is married to Chris Gregory, and they have 4 small children. Corbin was born October 14, 2001, Jordan was born May 17, 2003, Ava was born July 30, 2004 and her newest baby is Ethan who was born March 6,2006. All were born at home and helped into this world by me, their grandmother. You can see the photos of Jessica's labor and birth with her first son Corbin (all G-rated) here. Pictures and video of Ethan and his birth are available here.
